Where are we?

This journal reads from the beginning of our adventure (at the top) to the present (at the bottom).  Enjoy!  (Pictures are coming!)

February 21st, 2008 - Right now we are still in Williams Lake.  We have a deal pending on a sailboat in California.  Merle is going to see it and survey it, and finalize the deal if it is good, and he will return to Williams Lake early in March so we will know more then.

March 3rd - Merle is back from California (tanned and looking buff!), and we are going to move forward with this boat - no termites on this one!  The surveys are all done

March 12th - the Canadian dollar is the highest it has been since November, so the Universe is helping us, and we know it!  We send the money for our boat today.  And we also confirm our tenant today, so we can rent our house while we are gone.  This is also Shandro and Matero's last Thursday at playschool.  Now it is feeling more real, and the packing begins ...

March 13th - Our going away party - cosmic bowling.  It was so fun.  One of the best things about this wonderful group of people here in Williams Lake is that they love us for who we are, and they don't judge or critisize - they just laugh.  And they are so much a part of The One, that they love it when one of the group does well - they high five and cheers about everything; the scoreboard means nothing - it is a barbaric caveman method of recording events that they don't use here anymore since they got connected.

March 15th - A name?  We need a name for our boat that hasn't been used and that suits our boat, and the purpose of our journey.  Well, our journey is really a spiritual journey.  We are not religious per say, but we do feel very connected to God and Mother Earth, especially outside.  When we tell people that we are going to go wherever the wind blows us, that is really what we mean.  It is a lesson in listening and going with the flow.  And in reveling in life - soaking it all up like a big sponge, jumping in with both feet.  But we are still aware that we are more than just little people with stuff - we are spirits and we can connect and become emotionally attached to situations, or we can stand back from them spiritually, and observe the challenge or the lesson, and choose our emotion or reaction.  Someone said, 'Situations do not make a man, they reveal him.'  We need a name that somehow reflects all that.  I guess I will meditate on a name.

March 20th - Kenta Anae will be the name of our boat.  Not yet, but that's what we are going to ask for.  We asked permission of the universe to use this name, and the Raven Energy said it would be honoured.  It is an invocation used to summon the Great Raven Energy, a very old and very knowledgeable energy.  These words come from a very musical ancient spoken (not written) North American Aboriginal language that is older than our history books.  It is a call to the spirit energy of the Raven and to a very harmonious time when people had great reverence for nature, when they lived harmoniously with a real sense of oneness and belonging.  Merle means Raven or Crow - a bringer of the light, able to release past beliefs, and find balance living in the present.  Here is a link to an interesting parable about ravens, when they were the Great (white) Solar Birds.

March 21st - The spring solstice, Chilko's birthday, and another going away party for us - a barbeque at Bryon (and Lisa's !!) house.  Thanks, guys!  It was awesome.  You are all such a sweet bunch.  We will miss you.  Please find us and fly to sail with us anytime, if you want an adventure!

March 22nd - This morning, Chilko, our beloved yellow lab, told us that she needs to stay here and not travel with us.  An amazing intuit, Carol Ann, did some channeling with our dog and told us that she should stay here, and that she would stay with an amazing loving lady.  What an unexpected change of events!  She has all of her shots and her dog passport, and her bags are packed.  Now we have to rethink our lives a bit.  Going with the flow is challenging today!  Now I will dowse to see who I should ask to dog sit.

March 28th - Lilka came to pick up Chilko today.  Chilko loves her, but I think she was a bit sad.  We were sad too!  She will spend a year living in a cute little cabin on the shores of Williams Lake, tho - pretty awesome for a water-loving dog!  We thought we'd be ready to leave today, but there is still packing and cleaning to do.  The container is getting full!!  We had a candle light dinner on boxes last night.  Up all night.  By 6:30, I figured it was time to make some goodbye phone calls, and I picked up the phone to find it had already been disconnected!  I'll have to send love through the air instead.  I have said goodbye to almost everyone.  We haven't seen Zach and Sashie tho.  They are somewhere between Hawaii and here.  I believe that the universe has it in the plans for us to see them before we depart, but I'm not sure exactly how or where.

March 29th - The container is 20'long by 8'high by 8'wide.  If it had been 19' long, our stuff wouldn't have fit!  When you open the doors, it looks like a jigsaw puzzle in there!  And the house is pretty empty now.  We cleared our clutter pretty hard in the last few days.  What a cleanse!  Upside down is always messy at first, but I have more energy now than when I started moving out (...and throwing out...!), even though I am not working on much sleep.  It's been a long time since I did an outer cleanse, and it's great! By noon we are driving south toward Vancouver.

It's a funny feeling, actually.  Kind of a numb, go with the flow feeling.  Not real sparkly excitement yet.  Just quiet anticipation, and total trust and faith that it is perfect.  It feels like the right thing to do, and it has been relatively easy, really, to turn our lives in a different direction in quite a short time.  I actually think that last summer was a turning point.  Talking with people and voicing your thoughts and dreams is pretty powerful if they support and encourage you, like you did.  And the whole Tony Prior scenario made us realize that anything is possible and that it could really happen easily, and that the world would bend to accommodate our changes, making everything fall effortlessly into place.  And so it has.  Our house is rented, our business is on hold, our van is all but sold (buyer in place, we just have to empty and deliver it), Chilko is safe and looked after, we own a boat (almost - it won't be official until we physically take possession of it in a few days) and we have a bit of cash leftover for food for the next few months anyway.  Both Merle and I are feeling this numb feeling - like we are being lead and directed and we are just following along, not thinking too much.  It is very interesting.  It actually feels not really real yet.

March 30th - Thanks Mom and Dad for coming out from Edmonton AB to see us off!  We appreciate all that you do for us, and were grateful to see you before we embark on this adventure.  And thanks Mike and Lou for letting us stay with you while we are in Vancouver area.  We are very grateful.

March 31st - We need to figure out how to get to California!  No van means renting a car, so we are on that bandwagon.  I am sure that the universe will provide us with the perfect transportation.  I wonder how long it will take to find it?

April 1st - Well!!  We are the proud new owners of a 1995 Dodge CAravan.  A CA (California) raven - how fitting!  My brother Michael works at Maple Ridge Chrysler, and he just happend to have this car at the perfect price - less than a rental!  And he just happened to mention it.  What a great April Fool's Day joke!  I am filled with gratitude that the universe provided just what we need.  Mike said that if we had been one day later, it would have sold with the rest of the wholesale cars.  And yesterday, we had absolutely no intention of buying a car!  Again, perfect timing, and perfect price - purchase and insurance for 3 months cost less than a 3 day rental!  Now that it's bought, we have to see if all of our stuff fits!  I woner how far it will go?

April 2, 2008.  We visit Zach and Sashie this morning as we pack our van.  That’s pretty funny.  They are on their way north today, returning to Williams Lake, after having been away since October.  It is no coincidence that we got to see them before we left, I know it.  Perfect timing, once again.  And we sold our van.  Merle drove to North Van to deliver it and complete the deal tonight.  Talk about last minute!  But just like clockwork, like Carol Ann said!  We will leave tomorrow!

April 3rd, 2008.  We are on the road by 12 noon, and across the border by 12:30.  Yahoo!  Now, to drive for a few days …

April 5th, 2008.  Well, our little purple parrot (Shandro’s name for our Caravan) made it all the way to Oxnard California.  Every time Merle fueled up, he put in a litre of transmission fluid, and it worked like a charm!  And, we still have this little car to take us around to buy groceries and get sails fixed and pick up rigging and parts.  We are so lucky.  I am grateful.

April 7th, 2008.  We are on our boat in California today.  Tom Fluke did the offshore delivery today, and we are sleeping on our boat tonight!  Yippee!  Looks like we actually made it.  When I first saw the boat, I cried.  I stood on the dock, and it finally hit me that I owned this boat, and I was so happy to have a sailboat in my life again.  It feels real now that I can touch it and feel it.  Merle made a good choice.  This is a fine boat for us.  Now to move aboard.

April 9th Our first sail!!  So far, we have moved onto the boat, and we took it sailing this morning for the first time – no lessons or anything!  But it was a perfect sailing day, because it made Merle very awake, wondering if it was all okay out there, crashing about in the big waves and blustering 15 to 20 knot wind.  We didn’t see anyone else out sailing today!  Now, he is more keen on lessons.  Couldn’t have been better, actually.  The boys thought it was okay – even boring.  I loved it.  Merle and I were both contributing to the running of the rig, and it was nice to be on a level playing field again.  That hasn’t happened in a while.

What a surprise awaited us on our return … They are officially kicking us out of this marina today, even tho the rent is paid to April 30th!  That’s pretty funny, actually.  We’ve only been here 2 days, but we already know we don’t fit.  The surprising part was that they told us before we told them!  This is a very high-end marina with people who believe their grandfather’s ways are still the only ways to do things and to think.  It is a bit stuffy here and pretentious.  The people here are cautious and affluent, and they are only allowed to sleep on their boats here 2 nights a week.  That’s crazy.  Well I dowsed, and THEY said that there is a way better spot for us than this.  And I am certain that it is true!  We can't live on the hook yet because the rigging comes down today, but eventually, that will be a reality.  Now we must find a new place to moore.

April 13, 2008.  This is actually the first night in about 2 weeks that I have the energy to stay up past 8 o’clock.  I have been quite sick.  I am still sick, but it is waning, and I have some energy back today, so I'm glad.  Not much slow time yet.  But we did go to the beach today with the boys, for the second time since our arrival.  They were grateful, and I was too.  And I went for my first run this morning.  That was awesome.  And I started my Course in Miracles again this morning.  Merle seems keen to get the boat ready to sail – re-rigged – and he has forgotten about working only till 1pm, then living for the rest of the day.  He is back in the ‘work dawn till dusk’ mode, but he does say that once the boat is ready to sail, he'll be back on the balance program.  Good night.  Thanks universe.  Amen.

Four twenty, 2008.  Full moon and all.  It is very windy tonight here.  We are moored in a public marina that is very quiet.  The pelicans and herons have been entertaining - divebombing the water to catch fish.  And the seals in the harbour are pretty cute fishmongers too.  Shandro and Matero came running to me because they found tarantulas living in the rocks by the water, and they were scared and shaking.  As it turns out, they were crabs!  Once the boys learned that, they were delighted!  Matero said, 'You mean they won't eat me or bite me?  That's great!'  So, we spent the day feeding crabs.  It was really entertaining, and fun to watch them, and to draw them out of their little hiding spots.  It is the first time in a long time that I have been totally present for hours and hours.  Amazing.
